  48. You don't want to convert sounds this way if at all possible.  Converting
  49. from uLaw to .snd usually yields very bad samples.  It's much more
  50. productive to go the other route:  sample on an Atari or Mac and then
  51. convert to .au format.  In either case, you can find conversion
  52. programs on atari.arhive:

  68. Summary:Will it do screen dumps?

  70. I'm interested in getting a 24 pin dot matrix printer to use with my STs, and
  71. am very interested in the Panasonic 1123.  There are no local Atari dealers
  72. (what else is new) and the ones I called on the phone were unsure if the 1223
  73. can do screen dumps, as it is Epson LQ compatible, rather than Epson LX (9 pin)
  74. compatible.  I'm not worried about my programs that have printer drivers, as
  75. they all have drivers for the LQ series, but I have some children's software
  76. that does graphic screen dumps to let my kids print out their pictures, and I'm
  77. not about to have TWO printers in the house.
  78.  
  79. So what I wanna know is...if anybody has an 1123, 1124 or 1124i, can you do
  80. screen dumps to it?

  116.   PLEASE do NOT do an integrated GEM version!!!! if you want GEM,
  117. write a shell around it a la argshl (whatever). those of us using
  118. cli's will just alias common commands to a single keystroke if we
  119. want (eg alias a1 'arj -llkfwe./scmsijclwenrlweiajdmfdmfilwe' :-)

  121. and please try and keep it faithful to the original, refrain from
  122. making well meaning (but incompatible) improvements. we don't want
  123. another lharc fiasco.

  141.         I read an article earlier, caught the tail end of it, by a person
  142. who said that s/he was putting the Atari ST into an AT case.  I am wondering
  143. if anyone else has tried this and what the results were and what you need to
  144. do for this to work.  I would also like to do this but am unsure where to
  145. begin, so any help would be appreciated.  Please post messages or maybe even
  146. e-mail them directly to me if no-one else wants to hear about it.  Thank you.

  189. I've had one for almost 3 years now, and except for the internal speaker
  190. never working. (And me not getting around to get it worked on). It has
  191. never given me any trouble. I've used it with my old 800XL, my ST, and
  192. am currently using it with an Apple IIgs at work. (It has both a DB25
  193. port and a SIO port for use with the old 8-bits.)
  194.  
  195. Too bad its not 2400 baud though...
  196.  
  197. p.s. It also looks a lot like the box to control the SLM805 laser
  198. printer, and the XEP80 80 column adapter for the old 8-bits. Atari must
  199. really like reusing the same cases for different projects. The card
  200. reader for the portfolio for use with PC's looks just like my XM301
  201. modem from my XL!)

  237. I've been trying to write an small accessory which involves some form
  238. handling. I'll have to admit this is my first approach to GEM with
  239. machinecode, so anything could be wrong.

  241. Anyway, the action goes something like this:

  244. Form is drawn
  245. The user interacts
  246. Form is closed
  247. Shrinkbox
  248.  
  249. And this is where the fun starts. Now the windows behind the box is supposed
  250. to be redrawn. They aren't. Instead they are redrawn when I put the _next_
  251. form on the screen. Wiping out my new form.

  253. The fact that removing the grow/shrinkbox effect makes the problem even
  254. larger doesn't help very much.

  283. Before you draw the Growbox, you should have a:
  284.  
  285. form_dial( FMD_START, 0,0,0,0, dial_x, dial_y, dial_w, dial_h );
  286.  
  287. to lock that portion of the screen.  Do a form_dial( FMD_FINISH, etc... )
  288. when you're done.  That'll convince GEM to redraw.
  289.  
  290. If this still doesn't work, do an :
  291.  
  292. evnt_mesag() so GEM has time to let the WM_REDRAW message get to all of the
  293. open windows.  Then open your next form.
  294.

  346. MiNT works on the ST, STe, TT, and Mega STe. Some minor contortions
  347. are necessary for the latter two (i.e. MiNT has to be started from the
  348. desktop instead of from an AUTO folder); these contortions will be
  349. done away with in the next version (0.9) of MiNT.

  417. meant to show was that the two systems use the same low-level sector format
  418. and recording method.  I know for a fact that the Mac uses a different one.

  447. Same here.  When it came time to move on from my QX1 hardware sequencer, I
  448. spent months shopping for sequencing software.  Creator won it, no contest, so
  449. I had to get it.  And I was QUITE relieved to find that the computer it runs
  450. on was the cheapest variety I had seen.  (Bought a Mega 2 ST)

  457. I agree.  That's why I put up with C-Lab's release schedule bullshit.  They
  458. never know when the next version's coming out, but that's typical of the Atari
  459. world.  So I've got no real gripes.

  498. suppose), The rumour mill had the following:

  502.      The story also went on to say that HD floppies would be included as
  503. standard and that the multitasking OS would be avaible as an upgrade for older
  504. TT owners.

  545. I don't think the older ST that are causing the Problem, the problem
  546. MMU's where fitted to the later machines and have this Part No. C0 100109-001
  547.  
  548. So it could be a good idea to check over the wiring etc, and did you
  549. fit the anty ring resistor ?, in the extra address line.

  563. Since I posted my last message about the tos 2.05 loader/booter, I've been
  564. getting lots of response, some positive, some negative. Some even claimed
  565. that the program was illegal, which it most certainly isn't.

  567. The program was written in an attempt to load the tos 2.05 from a disk in
  568. a fashion similar to the many tos loaders that appear with every new tos
  569. release. This _has_ happened a few times, so it cannot have gone completely
  570. unnoticed by.

  572. The program can be very useful when trying out new patches, enhancements
  573. etc. The ability to load and run TOS 2.05 is merely a bieffect, and I won't
  574. be held responsible for any abuse of this program.

  576. Does anyone care to comment whether I should upload the program to atari-
  577. archive, or let it lie in rest on my harddisk?
